love poem 2002

this poem is for the pillow clutchers/for those looking into the imaginary eyes of the person who fills their mind with sugarplum smiles/for those who have a cannon of dreams ready and waiting to blossom/for the men and the women who want to be understood in that way that only someone who kisses you can understand you/this poem is for you.

this poem is not for the desperate/the pathetic/the lame/the loser/not for the one who hasn’t gotten laid in awhile/not for the one who says they’re “choosing not to date” for awhile/there is no such thing/this poem is for the people who cannot bring themselves to admit that they would give their right leg for any length of time with the person on their mind.

forgive me/I am not a brave woman/I do not know what lurks in the hearts of humans and I don’t really want to know/if what’s there mirrors memories I show in my face on bad days it holds kisses that are long gone/people who have disappeared/and passions that have faded into the ether of the past/nothing lasts/that is the one lesson this coward can say she is able to teach.

this poem is for all those who wish to say “I’m sorry”/I’m sorry I couldn’t love you/you deserve love/I’m sorry I couldn’t give something to you/you deserve to be given to/I’m sorry that for every person that loves somebody/another person just doesn’t want to/and sometimes we’re the lucky ones/right/we get to feel sweet truth in the night/the bodies we reach out to are miraculously there/but I know the despair that comes when they are not/I know the long nights and the doubt and the fear and that crawling back to a womb that just isn’t there/I know intensity’s address and the letdown that rents there/I’m sorry for it/it takes years off your life and it cannot be avoided.

and some times these little words are crutches for the crush that we feel/so this poem is a pathetic vehicle for me to tell you/each one of you/that I love you/in so many ways/in the same ways that stay up nights and days/dreaming up the perfect way to be there for someone/meals you would cook for them/poems you would write for them and the things you plan to say when they say no/well I love you/and you will never know how in the slight of a magician’s hand we could’ve been lovers and grandly in love/could’ve changed the whole game/written words on the horizon/changed the compromise/but you will know something else instead/bitter as bitter ever gets/more bitter than a rotten peach pit/more bitter than a child’s most terrifying nightmare at night/you will know that I don’t reflect what I see in your eyes/will will share some banal recognition/some cordial understanding but have I mentioned that I love you for not lying/so many people lying all the time/I hate them/so I love you/and you will still go home alone/and that is very hard to do.

for all the humans with love for those who aren’t their lovers/I love you.

and so the poem ends because we know that it will/but before it slips away like everything else/I will attempt the only words I can think of that are a fraction as good as a kiss: when you reach out at night and find not someone/but the cold grey light of day that wakes you up like a slap/like a curse/like an insult/I love you/when you stay at home thinking of those who are long gone or those who are getting kisses from someone that is not you/I love you/for those who want what they probably need and whose bodies are starving not for food/for me and for you and for all the people who never knew or understood what you would do for them/I love you/I love you/I love you.

Obama or McCain?

I’m just patiently waiting to find out who’ll win…
I have the feeling that Obama will be the winner (like many people feel too) but it’s only a matter of waiting…
I hope that a new government will make a positive difference not only for Americans, but also for the rest of us…
Now, if you are just bored with all this, head here or here to learn little about the democrats and the republicans and just have a good laugh… I don’t necesarely agree with anything you may find on those links… and they are just added here because I was bored…

Especially or Specially?

Posting a reply on my team’s discussion on Ravelry (Go Team HO! – Hopelessly Overcommited, in case you were wondering), I found myself wondering something sooooo silly…

Is it Especially or Specially?

Mostly because the grammar checker that I have installed on Firefox didn’t complain of any mistakes in my post… And I was pretty sure that in english it was Special… So, as usual I ran a Google search to clarify my doubt and well, apparently, there is special and especial in English…

Who would have thought so? (Obviously, people with better english than me…)

But their dual existence isn’t what brought me to write this, is the fact that they actually have different meanings. I know that’s what you would usually expect, but now that makes me realize how little I know… And even more, of how messed up my english is. Most of my english is practiced either here or with an adorable british guy that’s patient enough to tell me that I have an awesome english, and there lies my problem.

The english tought in my country is americanized and most of what I read or hear comes from either american writers or american television. (By the way, I hate the fact that the United States is America, what about the rest of the continent? Are we what’s been left out or something of that sort?)

Many a time I’ve found myself wondering “Is that how X is supposed to be written? ” when I’m talking with the adorable guy…
Like when I’m talking about my jewelry and he’ll say Jewellery (man, i remember feeling so dumb the first time he wrote it, because I thought I was wrong!).

I guess that I’ll have to sit a few more years with a dictionary to finally get it… because honestly, I’m not exactly sure I see the point to have Specially and Especially…

Oh, by the way, I know you are wondering what’s the difference between them…

Especially or Specially?

This is a favorite question of grammar checkers. Most of the time there is little or no difference between the words especially and specially.

Special is a common adjective. Specially is its adverb form. Special means “particular, distinguished in a distinct way, or designed for a particular purpose.” Specially means “particularly, in a disintguishing manner, or for a particular purpose.”

Especial is an uncommon adjective. Especially, its adverb form, is much more common. Especial means “exceptional, noteworthy, or particular.” Especially means “exceptionally, in a noteworthy manner, or particularly.”

In the sense of “particular” or “particularly,” the words mean pretty much the same thing. Often they can be used synonymously. However, if you want to stress the exceptional or noteworthy quality, then especial or especially is a better choice. If you want to stress the distinctive purpose of something, then special or specially is the word you are looking for.

Example: This program has specially designed macros for word processors.
(A distinctive purpose)

Example: He did especially well in All-Star Game.
(A noteworthy performance)”

Ingrid Betancourt, free at last!

Now, this has to be one of the best news of all year!

I was at school when I received a phone call from a friend, just to tell me that she had been freed! I couldn’t believe it!

Ingrid Betancourt is a Colombian politician who was kidnapped over 6 years ago (February 23rd, 2002) by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia)

Over the last year many have been the news related to her, mostly about her health and the inhuman conditions in which she was being forced to live. Hugo Chavez (President of Venezuela) came up with Operation Emmanuel, where Clara Rojas (Ingrid’s campaign manager) was released.
It was named Emmanuel in honor of Rojas’ child that was conceived while they were captive.

Also, in April, as the uncertainty about her situation was getting worse and worse (specially after an announcement that she had been in a hunger strike for a few weeks) Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France announced that he would launch a humanitarian mission to contact the FARC and hopefully get Ingrid’s freedom.

Finally, today in an amazing operation Ingrid Betancourt and other 14 hostages were released by Colombian Military Forces.

“Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said military intelligence agents infiltrated the guerrilla ranks and led the local commander in charge of the hostages, alias Cesar, to believe they were going to take them to Alfonso Cano, the guerrillas’ supreme leader.

The hostages, who had been divided in three groups, were taken to a rendezvous where two disguised helicopters piloted by Colombian military agents were waiting. Betancourt said her hands and feet were bound, which she called “humiliating.”

The pilots, she said, were posing as members of a relief organization, but “they were dressed like clowns,” wearing Che Guevara shirts, so she assumed they were rebels.

But when they were airborne, she looked behind her and saw Cesar, who had treated her so cruelly for so many years, lying on the floor blindfolded.

“The chief of the operation said, ‘We’re the national army. You’re free,’” she said. “The helicopter almost fell from the sky because we were jumping up and down, yelling, crying, hugging one another. We couldn’t believe it.” ” – Excerpt from Internation Herald Tribune.

I don’t think that any of the people involved in all this will ever read it, but Congratulations to Colombian Goverment and to Ingrid Betancourt, the 11 colombians and the three americans just a huge HUGE Welcome back!

Yes, I’m excited! I can’t help it! Even if the politics in my country are hard to understand, it’s amazing to see that somewhere in the world, governments are still fighting for freedom and justice.

To blog or not to blog?

Lately, I’ve been working a little in the blog’s backstage, nothing really important, just analizing a bit of the data that I’ve been getting…. I’ve realized that a “worked” blog is not as simple as an improvised one… Analizing all these data, and keywords and trying to figure out what widgets and things work… and which ones don’t… it’s a bit annoying…But I do like all the work it involves… I guess it has to do with the sense of pride you get…

A blog might not be the most important thing in the world… and many people would still ask me What’s a blog? (Yeah, they do ask me that…. even owning a laptop with wifi….) but I think it’s a good way to vent, or comment on subjects that some people might be curious about, but they’ve never dared to ask… Like my brother today, asking me about the Cinco de Mayo post….

I still remember when I started to hear about blogs a couple of years ago… it seemed to me like this really silly idea… I mean, why would people read what you have to say… there’s much more interesting things to do online… but hey, it could turn out that what you have to say, actually makes sense for someone on the other side of the world…. or maybe it doesn’t, but they find it entertaining, silly, or just annoying…

As a journalism student, I think it’s a good way to pretend to be one… and also practice my english a bit more (yes, even more!)

I’m still wondering who’s reading this blog… I know of a couple of people that check it regularly but there are a few regulars that I have no idea who they are, how they got here, and why they come back…
Leave a comment or just a hi!… I’m eager to hear from you…

Cinco de Mayo?

Mmmmmmm, this is probably the one holiday that really intrigues me… We (Hondurans) have nothing to do with it… but ever since I started watching American television, I´ve wondered what´s with the gringos?
As far as I´ve always understood, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday… So, what does Americans have to do with it?

May 1rst: Labour Day

So, May 1st was Labour day and as an aspiring Journalist I had to go take pictures for my Graphic Journalism class (Periodismo Gráfico).

Labour day is “is the commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago in 1886, when Chicago police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight hour day, killing a dozen demonstrators”.

I´ve always had this preconceived notion of the May 1rst Protest… mainly that it was a really dangerous mess… It was exactly the opposite… It actually seemed like a celebration; with people demanding things but still a celebration :-p
